Welcome to Fourth Grade!

Wednesday, August 8th, 2018
Dear Parents and Students,
WELCOME TO GRADE 4! My name is Kerri Aikman and I am a new teacher at Dominican International School Kaohsiung. I am a certified teacher from Canada with over 10 years experience in language programs in Taiwan. I am so excited to be part of the the DISK family and look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. We are going to have an amazing year, filled with personal growth, new learning and discovery!  I know that together we can create a classroom community that encourages inquiry, cultivates independence and fosters cooperation and respect.
NEW AT DISK: Over the summer, DISK underwent some major changes. We have an amazing new computer lab, several Smart Boards, an Audio Visual room, new classroom computers and state of the art wiring throughout the school. In addition, we have subscribed to some incredible online programs such as RAZ Kids for Reading, Mathletics for mathematics, and Encyclopedia Britannica for science and social studies research. It is wonderful to have all of these new and exciting programs to enhance our learning!
GOOGLE CLASSROOM & BLOG: This year, all homework and assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. To access this, please accept the Google Classroom invitation that I will send you via email. In addition, we will also have a classroom blog for sharing pictures of class activities and updates. Our blog address is: https://fabulousfourthgradedisk.blogspot.com
PARENT & TEACHER COMMUNICATION: Communication between parents and teachers is essential to student success. The best way to contact me is by email at kaikman@disk.kh.edu.tw.  Please don’t hesitate to email me at any time if you have questions or concerns. I am happy to hear from parents and look forward to working with you to create the best learning environment for your child. To get started, I’d love to hear all about my new student. Please see the attached request for information, “A Million Words or Less,” and tell me all about your child!
Let’s have an amazing year!
Sincerely,
Ms Kerri Aikman

“Tell Me About Your Child...In a Million Words or Less”

Dear Parents,

I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year! Research has shown that strong communication between teachers and parents benefit students’ learning, so I am asking you to do a homework assignment.
I want to know what you think is important for me to know as your child’s teacher.   I would like you to write to me and tell me about your child, in a million words or less (there is no minimum!).   You may write to me on the back of this paper or any other paper, or you may write to me via email. You may write in English or in Chinese.
Thank you in advance for partnering with me to make this coming school year the best year yet for your child!  Please send in this assignment by Monday, August 13th and let me know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,
Ms. Aikman
G4 Homeroom Teacher
